Premier League: The Three Clubs That Made the Cut for 2025-26

Leeds United and Burnley are back in the Premier League next season after lording over the EFL Championship this year. The Whites and Clarets recorded 100 points in 46 matchdays to take the automatic promotion spots, and both teams are keen to prove they deserve to stay longer in the English top-flight than they did when they last qualified.

Joining them are Sunderland, who have been through a long and arduous journey in the past few years. The Black Cats finished fourth in the EFL Championship table with 76 points – 14 points adrift of third-seeded Sheffield United. However, Regis Le Bris’ men defied the odds by beating them 2-1 in the promotion play-offs last Saturday at Wembley Stadium.

The super early SBOTOP Premier League 2025 odds don’t expect much from these promoted sides, but this should only motivate them next term.

Leeds United

Leeds United have been promoted back to the Premier League after spending the last two seasons in the EFL Championship. Before this, the Whites spent three seasons in the English top-flight. However, they were relegated to the second division following a 19th-place finish in 2022-23.

They should’ve been promoted to the English top-flight last season after taking the third seed in the EFL Championship standings. However, Southampton pipped them in the promotion play-offs. Leeds United didn’t need the promotion play-offs to secure their spot this time, as they won the EFL Championship by having a superior goal difference over Burnley (+12).

Joel Piroe led the Whites in scoring with 19 league goals and six assists, and he’s expected to create new Premier League 2025 highlights next term. The 25-year-old striker joined from Swansea City in 2023. Former Fulham duo Daniel James and Manor Solomon have 22 league goals and 21 assists combined, and they are no longer new to the Premier League.

Solomon has returned to Tottenham after a successful loan stint, but Leeds United must do everything to keep him on a permanent basis. The 25-year-old winger is reportedly open to play more matches with the Whites beyond this year.

Coaching the Whites is Daniel Farke, who has been around the block in Europe. Before joining Leeds United in 2023, Farke had overseen the promotion and relegation of Norwich City from the Premier League, and he faces the daunting task of preventing the same fate with Leeds United.

Burnley

Burnley now aim for consistency after bouncing in and out of the Premier League for four straight seasons

Burnley may have fallen short of winning the EFL Championship, but the promotion to the Premier League is the real prize. The Clarets aim for consistency this time after bouncing in and out of the English top-flight for four straight seasons. After they were relegated in 2021-22, Burnley won the EFL Championship the following year before a 19th-placed finish last season saw them drop again to the second division.

When Vincent Kompany left for Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich last summer, Burnley signed Scott Parker on a three-year deal. Parker’s appointment was a masterstroke for the Clarets since he turned them into a solid squad.

Josh Brownhill spearheaded the team’s attack with 18 league goals and six assists despite operating primarily in the middle of the park. He had help from Zian Flemming, Jaidon Anthony, and Jeremy Sarmiento, who recorded 24 league goals and 11 assists combined.

Burnley face the huge challenge of sorting their roster for next season. They must find a way to replicate Flemming, Anthony, and Sarmiento’s production since the three have returned to their mother clubs (Millwall, Bournemouth, and Brighton). The team is also rumored to lose key players CJ Egan-Riley and Ashley Barnes this summer.

Sunderland

Sunderland sealed their Premier League spot with a come-from-behind victory against Sheffield United last weekend. Tyrese Campbell put the Blades ahead by one goal in the 25th minute, but Eliezer Mayenda and Tom Watson scored the late goals to complete the comeback.

It’s been a long time coming for Regis Le Bris’ men, who were relegated from the Premier League in 2016-17 after finishing 20th in the standings. They were even relegated to League One and stayed there for the next four seasons before earning a place in the EFL Championship in 2021-22. It took the Black Cats three seasons from there to earn their place in the English top-flight.

Wilson Isidor and Eliezer Mayenda will be tasked with generating goals for Sunderland. Isidor had 13 league goals and two assists, while Mayenda had 10 league goals and five assists. Jobe Bellingham will also be in the spotlight since he is the first from his family to play in the Premier League, and he registered four league goals and three assists.
